Julia Quinn has again provided a classic example of the historical romance genre。 I was a little disturbed by the Earl of Newbury's character and how he was obsessively trying to find a wife that would produce him and heir, therefore seeing Annabel as more of an object than an actual person。 I was also a bit disgusted in how Annabel was treated by her grandparents (more so her grandfather) and how they were encouraging her to marry a man that would obviously not care for her properly。 While her Julia Quinn has again provided a classic example of the historical romance genre。 I was a little disturbed by the Earl of Newbury's character and how he was obsessively trying to find a wife that would produce him and heir, therefore seeing Annabel as more of an object than an actual person。 I was also a bit disgusted in how Annabel was treated by her grandparents (more so her grandfather) and how they were encouraging her to marry a man that would obviously not care for her properly。 While her grandmother did redeem herself, her grandfather treated her as an object that he could sell and be rid of, and I didn't like that。 This has to be the only parts of the book that I did not enjoy reading, however they were essential for the story to be able to come together well so I'm still giving this book 5 stars。 Since the book is called Ten Things I Love About You, I am going to write ten things I loved about the book。 1。 Sebastian and Annabel's connection and how natural it was for each of them to be their true selves around each other 2。 Annabel's relationship with her cousin Louisa 3。 Louisa's loyalty to her cousin, despite only meeting her that season 4。 Quinn's excellent dialogue 5。 Sebastian's protectiveness and jealousy over Annabel 6。 Sebastian's big secret (you'll have to read to find out what it is!) 7。 Harry and Olivia's minor involvement in the book 8。 The fact that there was a house party (house parties always deliver!) 9。 Annabel's determination to marry well so she can provide for her family 10。 How Annabel and Sebastian first met 。。。more

Simply perfection! So the Bevelstoke series is now my standing favorite。。。 I'm doing what I can to persuade my husband and sons that they should read these。。。 to which they unsurprisingly resist, but I feel compelled to assert that they WOULD, indeed, appreciate the writing and the stories。 Loving Sebastian and Annabel。。。 and surprisingly capable grandmamas。 Simply perfection! Anyone have a time machine I can borrow? I want to visit my 19th century book boyfriend, Sebastian Grey。 His charm in "What Happens in London" left me smitten。 In "Ten Things。。。" his vulnerability hidden right below the surface of his easy going manner, and his sense of fairness had me fall madly in love。 If only Julia Quinn had written a story that focused more on him。 That's not to say the heroine, Annabel, wasn't appealing。 I was quaking over her plight。 Just, Sebastian's issues like his PTSD Anyone have a time machine I can borrow? Sebastian Grey is just so likable, everyone in the ton, and every reader MUST love him。 I do too。 The secret of Seb was quite unexpected - and delightful。Annabel Winslow is a smart and wonderful heroine worthy of Sebastian's interest。 I flew through this one and will put it in the pile of Quinn books I liked the best。 I even have a special appreciation for Annabel's grandmother who pulls a wonderful heroic act near the end。 Sebastian Grey is just so likable, everyone in the ton, and every reader MUST love him。 I do too。 The secret of Seb was quite unexpected - and delightful。Annabel Winslow is a smart and wonderful heroine worthy of Sebastian's interest。 I flew through this one and will put it in the pile of Quinn books I liked the best。 I even have a special appreciation for Annabel's grandmother who pulls a wonderful heroic act near the end。 。。。more

I love the counting in the book。 I love how all in Sebastian is even when she doesn’t know it。 Everyone underestimated him。

2nd read。 3。5 stars。 This book used the romance trope of faking a relationship with a friend to escape the attentions of someone awful。 I like this trope and I would normally rate a book higher than this when using it。 But in this book, the characters took some of the fun out of it。 Sebastian is set up in the previous books to be a lot more entertaining than he winds up being in his own love story。 He’s almost a little boring here。 Annabel is almost generic as she’s given no distinguishing quali 2nd read。 3。5 stars。 This book used the romance trope of faking a relationship with a friend to escape the attentions of someone awful。 I like this trope and I would normally rate a book higher than this when using it。 But in this book, the characters took some of the fun out of it。 Sebastian is set up in the previous books to be a lot more entertaining than he winds up being in his own love story。 He’s almost a little boring here。 Annabel is almost generic as she’s given no distinguishing qualities other than curves and large breasts。 She’s fine and nice, but shouldn’t the main character be a little more interesting than fine and nice?I like the story as well as some of the secondary characters。 I also really liked that we find out at the beginning of the book who the secret author is of the popular gothic novels everyone has been talking about。 Had the main characters not fallen a little flat for me, I think I really would have enjoyed this book。 。。。more

Charming and CaptivatingSuch a great follow-up to What Happens In London! I'm so glad Sebastian got his own story! He is one of my favorite JQ characters to date for so many reasons。 In WHIL, he is the scene-stealing, goofy, and provoking rakish cousin of Harry, who comes off as quite aloof and never takes anything seriously。In TTILAU, you find out quickly that he's so much more! Sebastian Grey's character development is one of JQs best, reminding me very much of Michael Stirling in When He Was Wicked (I clearly have a thing for dashing British soldiers!) While the story begins much like the typical devilishly handsome rake/rouge male lead meets the innocent gently-bred lady, this story quickly becomes its own, pulling you in until you're finished feeling content with happy tears in your eyes。 This story (especially the epilogue) made me cry happy/ugly tears! Also, can we please talk about how hilarious Annabel's grandmother is!? Pure Gold! I found myself highlighting many quotes from this book because it was so beautifully written。 I VERY HIGHLY recommend it! 。。。more

Lib (Enthusiastic reader, occasional reviewer)

By far my favourite of this series, though I also quite liked Olivia and a Harry’s story, and perhaps my favourite Quinn to date。 I loved Sebastian in this series, so I was pleasantly surprised when this was his book, and not Winslow’s, as expected (they are Bevelstoke books after all)。 I also found Annabel to be endearing, as was Louisa and her crotchety grandmother。 All in all quite enjoyable and I would definitely recommend it。

Certainly this book and this trilogy was one of my favorites of Julia Quinn thus far。 I really loved the rich character of Sebastian and the deep insight of both he and Annabel。 A very good read。

I started the book a little on the back foot because I found it strange that the story wasn't about Winston, since it's his family series, but you totally forget about that from the very first pages。 Simply one of my favorite Julia Quinns! I identified a lot with Sebastian's ways and his insecurities and how he is sensitive to people's feelings, just perfect this book, no matter what, I was very moved by the ending, for me it was one of Juli I started the book a little on the back foot because I found it strange that the story wasn't about Winston, since it's his family series, but you totally forget about that from the very first pages。 Simply one of my favorite Julia Quinns!
